U.S. Embassy Statement:  Visit of Deputy Assistant Secretary Richard Albright to Myanmar November 3-10

November 9, 2018

U.S. Ambassador Scot Marciel and Deputy Chief of Mission George Sibley accompanied Richard Albright, the U.S. State Department Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration who is responsible for humanitarian assistance programs in Asia, on visits to Kachin and Rakhine States November 5-8.  These visits are part of the U.S. Embassy’s regular travel to look at our humanitarian assistance programs throughout the country and to better understand the conditions on the ground.  The United States continues to believe that progress in Rakhine State is critical to Myanmar’s future, and we are talking with people from all communities to learn more about how the U.S. can help.  The United States provides humanitarian assistance to vulnerable communities throughout Myanmar, including in Rakhine and Kachin States.  Earlier during the week DAS Albright visited Yangon, and he will meet Myanmar government senior leaders in Nay Pyi Taw on November 9.
