U.S. Embassy Announces Scholarship and Exchange Opportunities

Yangon — The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce that applications for four U.S. government-funded scholarships and exchange programs are now open for the 2021-2022 academic year.  These programs include:  the Lincoln Scholarship and the Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship for fully-funded Master’s Degree programs in the United States, the one-year Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship for graduate-level studies, and the Fulbright Foreign Language Assistant (FLTA) program for teachers.  All U.S. government exchanges and scholarship programs are open to any qualified applicant from Myanmar, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, or political affiliation.

“Even in these uncertain times, we encourage future leaders across Myanmar to apply for these scholarship and exchange programs in the United States,” noted George Sibley, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy.

More information on each of the currently open applications is below.

The Lincoln Scholarship supports the development of leadership and advanced technical skills for future civil society, private sector, and government leaders from diverse backgrounds across Myanmar. The scholarship covers tuition for Master’s degree studies, leadership training sessions, a stipend for living expenses, a support system while studying in the U.S., and alumni support activities and alumni grants after returning from the U.S.  Please see more information at www.thabyay.org/scholarship .

The Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship gives full scholarship funding to students from Myanmar seeking a Master’s degree at a university in the United States of America.

The Humphrey Fellowship is a one-year funded program that sends accomplished professionals to the United States for graduate-level academic coursework and related professional experiences.  Fellows are selected based on their potential for national leadership and commitment to public service in either the public or private sector.  The Humphrey Program is not a degree program and grants are not renewable.

The Fulbright FLTA Program is a nine-month, fully funded, non-degree program that provides young teachers of English an opportunity to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency and extend their knowledge of the society and culture of the United States, while teaching Myanmar language to U.S. students.
