THE EMBASSY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN RANGOON IS TRANSMITTING THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION THROUGH THE EMBASSY WARDEN SYSTEM AS A PUBLIC SERVICE TO U.S. CITIZENS IN BURMA. PLEASE DISSEMINATE THIS MESSAGE TO ALL U.S. CITIZENS IN YOUR ORGANIZATION OR NEIGHBORHOOD.

On Wednesday, November 22, U.S. Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson announced a determination that the situation in Rakhine State constitutes ethnic cleansing.  This announcement may lead to demonstrations in Rangoon or elsewhere. All U.S. citizens are reminded to avoid areas of demonstrations.

Furthermore, as a prudent measure, the Embassy is temporarily suspending all official U.S. government travel to the Rakhine townships of Sittwe, Rathedaung, Buthidaung, and Maungdaw from November 23 – December 4. The Embassy advises U.S. citizens to temporarily avoid travel to these townships during this period.
