U.S. Embassy in Burma

Security Alert – February 08, 2024

Location: Rangoon, Burma

Event:  The U.S. Embassy in Rangoon has learned a ceremony will take place in People’s Square and Park at 5:30 a.m. on February 12, 2024, to commemorate Union Day’s 77th anniversary.  Due to the expected increased security presence and history of anti-regime incidents at regime-affiliated locations, consider avoiding the area.

Also, Pyay Road, between the intersections of Ahlone Road and Bargayar Road, will be closed from 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on February 10 and February 12.  Traffic will be diverted accordingly, according to announcements.

REMINDER: Criminal activities also remain a common occurrence in Rangoon.  Pickpocketing, robberies, and scams have increased, likely due to the difficult economic situation in the country.
