Message for U.S. Citizens: Now in Effect – New Policy for Personal Electronic Device Access to Embassy

THE EMBASSY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN RANGOON IS TRANSMITTING THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION THROUGH THE EMBASSY WARDEN SYSTEM AS A PUBLIC SERVICE TO U.S. CITIZENS IN BURMA. PLEASE DISSEMINATE THIS MESSAGE TO ALL U.S. CITIZENS IN YOUR ORGANIZATION OR NEIGHBORHOOD.
Starting yesterday, January 2, 2018, consular section visitors are now no longer permitted to bring personal electronic devices (PEDs) or liquids onto the Embassy compound. This policy applies to both visa applicants and U.S. citizen visitors. PED storage is not available at the Embassy.
PEDs include computers, laptops, radios, cell phones, smart phones, MP3 players, iPads and other tablet devices, handheld gaming devices, smart watches, and wearable electronic fitness devices.
Regarding the ban on liquids, water fountains are available in the consular section waiting room.
