THE EMBASSY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN RANGOON IS TRANSMITTING THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION THROUGH THE AMERICAN LIAISON NETWORK AS A PUBLIC SERVICE TO U.S. CITIZENS IN BURMA. PLEASE DISSEMINATE THIS MESSAGE TO ALL U.S. CITIZENS IN YOUR ORGANIZATION OR NEIGHBORHOOD.
Updated Quarantine Information: The Burmese government has updated quarantine procedures for foreigners arriving to Burma for “professional purposes,” including “projects, business, construction, and departmental matters.” Foreigners must first self-quarantine in their countries of origin for one week, quarantine in a government facility upon arriving for another week, and then self-quarantine at home for one final week. Foreigners will also be required to present proof of a negative COVID-19 test prior to boarding and must be tested for COVID-19 at the end of the home quarantine period. Arriving foreigners must present evidence of the required pre-arrival self-quarantine. The U.S. Embassy does not have clarification on what documentation the government will accept as evidence of the various requirements, such as the pre-arrival self-quarantine.
Relief Flights: A ban on international commercial flights and visa issuance continues until at least June 15. Some commercial relief flights are available for purchase to depart Burma. Currently the best option to return to the United States is flying from Yangon to Incheon, South Korea via either MAI or Korean Air, then transiting to the United States. MAI is offering flights for purchase to Seoul on June 5, 9, and 11. Korean Air is offering flights for purchase on June 5, 8, 12, and 15. Flights may fill quickly, or be cancelled or change at the last minute depending on landing approvals.
