Message for U.S. Citizens: Changes to Routine U.S. Passport Services

8 April 2020

THE EMBASSY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN RANGOON IS TRANSMITTING THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION THROUGH THE AMERICAN LIAISON NETWORK AS A PUBLIC SERVICE TO U.S. CITIZENS IN BURMA. PLEASE DISSEMINATE THIS MESSAGE TO ALL U.S. CITIZENS IN YOUR ORGANIZATION OR NEIGHBORHOOD.

Because of public health measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, effective April 2, 2020, the U.S Department of State began limiting its ability to offer routine passport and citizenship services overseas.

The U.S. passport printing centers in the United States have suspended processing and shipping passports and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad to Embassies until further notice.

U.S. citizens can apply at the Embassy for passport services, but their passport will not be printed or delivered until printing centers resume operations.  The Embassy can offer emergency passport issuance services to U.S. citizen adults and minors with a need for emergency travel.

If you have previously applied for a passport or CRBA, you should expect significant delays receiving your documents. Please consider waiting to apply until we resume normal operations.

We encourage you to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive the latest updates in your country, as well as the days and hours of American Citizen Services and possible evacuation plans.
