Location: Yangon – Eastern stairway of Shwedagon Pagoda, in front of the Kyay Thon bronze statue.
Event: Demonstrations expected to take place on May 31 beginning at 2 p.m, and again on June 1 at a time to be determined. The group intends to protest the recent arrest warrant issued against the Buddhist monk Wirathu.
U.S. government personnel are advised to avoid this area during the times of expected protests.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid the area of the demonstration near the Eastern stairway of Shwedagon Pagoda.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
- Monitor local media for updates
- Keep a low profile.
