The Embassy encourages all Americans to check the validity of their passports. Those who require consular services should immediately schedule an appointment.
The Embassy advises all Americans that due to restrictions related to COVID-19 and the military coup, the Consular Section anticipates potential delays in providing some services to American citizens. If the validity of your passport is less than 1 year, we recommend that you renew your passport now. Appointments for all citizen services can be made at our website here: U.S. Citizen Services – U.S. Embassy in Burma. American citizens can direct specific questions to the Consular Section at ACSRangoon@state.gov.
Due to the presence of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, the Embassy encourages all Americans in Burma to follow COVID-19 guidelines established by the U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC). Please visit the CDC webpage for more information about COVID-19 vaccines. The Embassy urges any Americans who are not yet vaccinated to do so at the earliest opportunity. Several local private clinics are now offering COVID-19 vaccinations to the public, including booster shots. American citizens should contact private hospitals directly to book their vaccinations. For more information about local COVID-19 conditions and testing, please visit our website: https://mm.usembassy.gov/covid-19-information/4.
Please note that the Department of State issued a Level-4 Travel Advisory for Burma, the highest level issued by the Department of State. It advises U.S. citizens not to travel to Burma or to leave as soon as it is safe to do so. As a result of these conditions, if you experience an emergency, the U.S. Embassy has a very limited ability to provide assistance.
