The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently recommended changes to Polio vaccinations for adults and children in Myanmar. Between four weeks to one year before departing Myanmar, residents of Myanmar and visitors who stayed more than four weeks should seek a booster of inactivated polio vaccine (IPV). Obtaining the IPV booster will protect you and others from the risk of getting polio, and prevent the potential spread of circulating Vaccine Derived Polio Virus which may cause polio in the under-immunized.
You should consult with your medical provider about this recommendation and seek the IPV booster from an appropriate public or private source. All travelers to Myanmar should review CDC health guidance.
